A dissertation submitted to the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the Degree of Master of Arts in Social Sector Planning and Management pf Makerere Universityen_US
The study was conducted against the backdrop that sustainability of community point water sources in the country is still a challenge in improving sustained access to WASH services in Uganda. The effectiveness of the water and sanitation committees apparently is a key factor that requires further research in the drive to improve the sustained access to WASH services. The study was purposed to examine the factors (internal and external) that affect the effectiveness of WSCs in executing their mandates. By exploring such factors, it is hoped that the study will bring to light what needs to be done to sustainably impact on WSCs’ effectiveness, which in turn would impact on safe water supply sustainability in rural settings. Additionally, the study findings is an added resource to the wider national, regional and international academic, policy, development management and governance discussions about the effectiveness of water and sanitation committees, sustainability of community point water sources, and sustained improvement in access to safe water services in Sub Saharan Africa. For the academia, the study will identify gaps to inform future studies.en_US
